Big Opener Winner: The David Wax Museum

It was an amazing voting run but, in the end, The David Wax Museum came out of the scrum as the winner of the Big Opener contest. They will now join the amazing lineup of the 2010 Newport Folk Festival later this summer. We wish them all a warm congratulations, and we can't wait to catch them in Newport.

We wish our two runner-ups, The Woes and The Lighthouse and the Whaler, all the best, and the success they deserve.

We also wish to thank all the bands that entered the Big Opener. The organizers of the Festival had a very difficult time narrowing down their top three bands from so many great entries. There is obviously an insane amount of passion involved in your music and your fan following, as evidenced by the plethora of comments on our voting page. This is what we hoped would result from this contest. We wanted people to experience great music that they otherwise might not be able to hear, be it due to geographical restrictions, genre preferences or whatever.

We hope to see you all in Newport at the end of July for the Newport Folk Festival!
