magichat: We're just mad about saffron.
From Grizzly Bear to James Franco to Andy Warhol, lots of things seem to be coming together from the worlds of music, film and visual arts lately. Will the canoodling pay off? Wethinks it might...mostly.
Pitchfork recently reported that Brooklyn-based 2009 breakout rockers Grizzly Bear have teamed up with several films already in 2010, lending their talent to soundtracks. Grizzly Bear have recently been credited with contributing the score to the film Blue Valentine, now showing at the annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Also to be updated on their resume: several tracks on the soundtrack to Jack Goes Boating, the directorial debut of the amazing, stunning, rapturous Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Also premiering this week at Sundance is Howl, which, for obvious reasons, has become our favorite to win everything . Howl is said to depict moments in the life of Alan Ginsberg that led up to his writing of his epic poem from which the film snags its title. It also dives into the goings on in America that led to the birth of the Beat era. The star? None other than Spidey's best friend and everyone's favorite dealer from Pineapple Express, James Franco.
To round out this edition of Six Degrees, James Franco is said to have landed a show at a Deitch Projects in New York City. Yes, that's an art space. Turns out Franco's an artist off the screen as well. Flavorwire reported recently that Franco is making mad connections in the art world in the City. Andy Warhol Part Deux? We shall see.
In other news, there's an Andy Warhol exhibit going down at the University of Vermont. No word yet on whether or not Franco, Hoffman or Grizzly Bear will be stopping by.
